* trailing a number (2003)

    I have a column of over 4000 numbers, and over 2000 of them have a * trailing its respective number. Is there a way I can quickly remove these "trailers"?
    Thanks.

    Select the column.
    Select Edit | Replace.
    Enter
~*
in the 'Find what' box (the
~
tells Excel that the
*
following it is a literal character, not a wildcard.
    Make sure that the 'Replace with' box is empty.
    Click 'Replace All'.

(Edited by Jezza on 29-Mar-07 22:47. Ooops , I may have over complicated this, go for the replace option :-))
Insert a column next to it and type in this formula:

    =IF(RIGHT(A1,1)="*",LEFT(A1,LEN(A1)-1),A1)

    Assuming the number is in A1 and then copy down.
