    Sort (XP)

I've attached a small sample of a worksheet - the sheets needs to be sorted by Change Order # then by Item # - what's the trick? As you can see, without manually moving these rows around, I can't figure out how to make the Item #s sort in ascending, numerical order, i.e., 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 AND THEN 2.10, 2.11 . . .

    What am I missing?

    Again - thank you!

    Re: Sort (XP)

A problem is that some of the values in column C are text values and others are numbers. Text is sorted differently than numbers.
I'd add two extra columns to compute the parts before and after the point. I've named them Int for Integer and Frac for Fraction. Sort on Change Order #, Int and Frac.
    See attached version.

    Re: Sort (XP)

Thanks, Hans. I had hoped it would be some "sort" thing I didn't know about - bummer.

Since the person who did this doesn't even work at the same place I do we're stuck with this formatting every time we get an update - BUT - your suggestion is very helpful - I just added to it for asthetics - I inserted another column, concatenated the integer and the fraction back together then pasted them as a value after sorting. Not too big a deal to do - sooooooooo

    Thanks - again.
