path/file access error when copying worksheet (2003)

I have a client who is getting an error from Microsoft Visual Basic, which reads "Path/File access error: 'VB580.tmp'" (the number changes). He gets this when some users do a ctrl-drag to copy a worksheet to a new tab. I've seen a couple of posts on the web with similar problems, but no resolutions. Here are some details:

It seems to be login-dependent. The IT guy can login and it works fine, but the end user logs in and gets the error.
    Both logins have administrator rights
It can happen with files across the network or saved locally.
There are no macros in the workbook (can there be user-specific macros?)

Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

    Thanks!

Your client is not the only one. As you note yourself, his problem is mentioned frequently in the newsgroups, but unfortunately, nobody seems to know the exact cause or solution.
    Two suggestions I found:
    - The user doesn't have sufficient permissions in the root folder of a drive (the path VB*.tmp points to the root of the 'current' drive)
    - An overzealous antivirus program.

Re: path/file access error when copying worksheet

    Solved!
Per a suggestion I found on the web somewhere, I had the client install and run Process Monitor (FileMon on older systems) from www.sysinternals.com . Searching the data for the VB*.tmp file showed that opening the file for read/write was denied access. The path it was located in was of the form serverusersvb123.tmp, which is a directory of user accounts. Changing the permissions on this directory fixed the problem.

Hope this can be of help to someone else.
