    junction links (XP Pro SP2)

Hi - I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to put some kind of file-type filter on a junctioned folder in XP.

    Thanks

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

I confess I had to look up what a junctioned folder is, so I probably won't be able to help. But for the benefit of others, could you explain what you mean by 'file-type filter' and what you want to accomplish with it?

    Thanks HansV

Specifically I want the folder to only allow PDF documents to be saved in it. I'm crossing my fingers that it won't need coding :-p

You'll probably need specialized software for this. If you don't get a reply here within a few days, we may move this thread to the Software Finds and Wants forum.

There are no utilities which prevent saving particular file type to a folder. The bottom line is: the specific file type may or may not have a designated extension.

However, you can use a utility to move out files with or without specific extension from the folder. For instance, you can use ROBOCOPY with /MOVE switch and exclude .pdf files ( /XF *.pdf) and run it on the regular basis. Robocopy is a part of Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools (you can download it from Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools - free download). In addition, you can download Robocopy Graphical User Interface (Robocopy GUI). Note: you need to install GUI to the same folder where robocopy.exe is.
