    Flickering Screen Section

I have an Acer Aspire 1690 and have started to have a problem with the display. A strip about 2 inches wide on the right of the screen flickers rapidly, producing a blurred image. Is this a problem anyone has come across? Thanks.

Does it happen with a different monitor ? Does it happen with different screen resolution / color quality / refresh rate ?

It is hard to respond with the limited information provided, but let me speculate. Your symptom is consistent with one of the column, or data, driver chips malfunctioning and that is not good. In the worse case that means a display replacement is needed. I've read comments that this laptop has a very flexible case around the display. That is not desirable as it can apply unwanted stress to the numerous display connections and possibly lead to the problem you cited.

I would check with Acer tech support, if there is such a service, and see if this is a known problem. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best, but it sounds serious to me.

    Farmer,
I agree with Paul on this. it doesn't sound very promising but I suppose you could try updatingreinstalling drivers for the video. Wouldn't hurt.

Try to get to Acer tech support with this.
Are they ( Acer ) still around?
    How old is this machine?
    Good Luck.

    Farmer,
I would look for any updated drivers for that particular system but especially Video and Display drivers.
