Could not deliver the message in the time limit sp

    Hi,
I'm running Exchange 2003. When I send mail to one particular domain I'm getting not delivered messages as below. I have checked MS KB and none of their recommendations were applicable.

This probably means that the mail server of somewhere.com is down or not responding, so there is little you can do about it, except trying to send it again every few hours or so until it is received.

I don't beleive it to be a problem with there server being down, as I can email using a POP3 account with my ISP.

According to MSKB article SMTP mail cannot be sent or cannot be received in Exchange Server, this error could be caused by the firewall you're using. The article suggests different workarounds depending on the firewall.

I'm afraid I have no further suggestions, sorry. I hope someone else will be able to help.

Check with the recipient's administrator. Perhaps they have your exchange site blacklisted.

You could try and increase your timeout settings in your exchange server or outgoing firewall rule.

Some servers are set up to check all incoming connections and figure out if it's likely to be spam. If it pass the "test", the smtp conversation continues, if not, the connection is dropped (and would apear from your end as a time out). Sometimes, this process takes too long, and causes a timeout.

Have you tried a manual smtp connection using telnet? That will give you a good idea of where to connection problem occurs.
