    SQL Server v DB2 (VB6)

I'm about to design a VB6 application using SQL server as a back end database, however someone has suggested using IBM's DB2, . Can anyone point out the advantages of using an SQL Server database over a DB2 database? We have both...

If you pick SQL Server, MS will be happy; if you pick DB2, IBM will like you more.

Seriously, one thing to consider is how well you know the SQL syntax of the product you pick. More importantly, will your app need to scale UP? DB2 runs on the big iron as well as mid-range and servers (does it run on PCs?).

I don't know either product very well, but I am familiar with VB apps developed using Access DBs. I know it is common to use SQL Server databases in VB apps, but I haven't heard of people using DB2 like this.

According to the IBM site, DB2 will run on any platform.

    Re: SQL Server v DB2 (VB6)

Does anyone have another comments on this? I work in a Mainframe shop using DB2 for our production work. I have been using VB6 as a front end to an Access 97 db. I have now been told that I have to start looking into using DB2 as the database for my information.

I have a "query" that someone one created that will allow me to "get" information from DB2. I am now looking for VB6/DB2 scripts/apps that will allow me to read & write. Does anyone have any ideas where I could start looking?
