Internet dial up trying to connect (XP+SP2, IE 6)

Hi folks, well with your help over the years I've gradually increased my list of IT toys. I now have ADSL running successfully via a router allowing me to use my laptop whilst the wife searches for the latest goss on her soapies via the desktop! Anyway, my only minor glitch is that from time to time when I open a new IE6 screen, the lappy tries to use a dial up connection. I do have a prepaid-dial up short cutted for use on holidays. But it is NOT set as my default connection, and the dialing rules are such that it should never dial a connection. In other words, there should be no reason for it to dial but it does.
It is an intermittent problem but annoying. Anyone come across it before?

Have you run full A/V & spyware scans? Does it only happen when YOU (as opposed clinking a link) open a new instance of IE?

Yep, full scans run - and both when I open a tab or a click a hyperlink

I have a dial up connection as well for back up when I am on the road when there isn't any Wi-Fi and have had that happen to me on rare occasions as well. Check your connection settings in Outlook and or Outlook Express to make sure that they are set to use the LAN as well. Tools, Account Settings then Connection.

Thanks John. It is set to LAN and the dial-up window was still appearing...rats, still no luck!
