Data Validation list width? (Excel 2002/2003)

Edited by HansV to replace zip file with image it contained

    Hi

Please see attached, I am trying to get the Data Validation drop down list the same width as selection cell.

Is there a way to set this please.

    Regards

    Braddy

You can't customize the dropdown list in any way, except by changing the zoom percentage of the worksheet.
If it is essential to change the width, use a combo box from the Forms toolbar or from the Control Toolbox.

    Hi Hans

Thanks for the guidance on this, it's just that some of the other data validation cells all match the width of the selection cell.

    I don't know why you get a wide dropdown list, it appears to be a bug. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

Are you saying that other data validation lists on the same sheet have different dropdown widths? AFAIK, the width is set for a sheet once you create the first data validation list, and you cannot change it, even in code.

Re: Data Validation list width? (Excel 2002/2003)

There's obviously something odd about it because yesterday my validation dropdown would not change size if I resized a column after setting it, but today it does! The problem is, that once it starts behaving strangely, there doesn't seem to be anything you can do about it - removing and recreating the validation certainly didn't work for me (at least, it didn't yesterday!) and checking the Shapes.Count property of the sheet returned 1 both before and after I had deleted the validation from the cells. I will do some more experimenting...

    Hi Rory

I did that aswell, changed the column, reset the data validation, even moved the data to a different worksheet, all to no avail.
