    Disappearing Windows (XP Pro Sp-2)

Very often, I can have a window open (doesn't necessarily matter what program), and, if I move my cursor out of that window, it will automatically minimize to the task bar.

I don't have to even select another window (click in it) for this to happen. However, if a window does "disappear", when I bring it back to the front, and then click in it, that can often stop the disappearance.

This has occurred through a couple different installs, so it's not (I don't think) a corrupted file; if it's something I am setting wrongly, or not setting, I'm doing it completely oblivious, thinking all my settings are correct.

I know this type of behavior is part of the X-Windows characteristics that you can set through Tweak-UI, but I've checked that and all **seems** OK.

Any ideas what can cause this and how to prevent it?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Much as it may not seem so, I'm not trying to be a smart aleck about this. I've just NEVER seen such behaviour and I fear that "something" else you've done has caused it, knowing all the mucking around you seem to do with your machine. I have NO ideas to offer you...

    Al:

You didn't think I was upset or some such, did you? I was only pullin' at you.

I know all too well that you'd let me know any fix you had.

This is an interesting topic - "Focus stealing problems" and it sounds complex. I did find an interesting web page that may be of help. Remember to back up your registry if you attempt to make changes. <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15>

I had a friend with an even worse case. He couldn't get any windows to show at all. Turned out he'd installed Linux.
