    Printers/files and Vista

    Hi all;

I just installed Vista basic and must say while the installation went well, the results are making me crazy!!
I have a PC (XP Pro based) attached to a Linksys router and a notebook with Vista. I "was" able to access files
on my pc from the notebook and print to the printer attached to the pc from the notebook. When I installed Vista
this all went out the WIndow (no pun). I can see the folders and I can create a printer. I keep getting "Windows unable to connect error 0x0000046.
I have disabled both firewalls but no go? Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Dennis

    Hey John!

I thought I had. Will go thru it again just to make sure. I'll let you know.

    Thanks

    Re: Printers/files and Vista

Well, I went thru the kb doc, pretty well had all things done, (learned lots though)
Still unable to connect to the printer. I can see it but when I try to connect I get:
Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000046a)

I didn't try the files on Vista from XP. I did try files from Vista to XP. Still no go.
It says I don't have permission for Network access. XP doesn't need "public folder: does it?

    Any ideas?

How is the printer attached to the desktop PC - Parallel or USB?

A good way to debug network sharing issues is Troubleshooting file shares on a home network. Even though it references files much if not all applies to printers as well. There are several helpful links to other network troubleshooting pages.
