What make and model of printer?
Has the indicator ever displayed accurately before?
Have you the latest printer drivers installed?
Is it a new, original manufacturer's cartridge?
The model of the printer is HP Deskjet 5740, it has always properly, and yes the latest printer drives are installed and lastly it is a remanufactured cartridge.
If by "remanufactured" you mean refilled and not an original, I would suspect that whatever tells the printer (and then your PC) that it is once again full of ink has not been reset. Perhaps someone with an idea of how these things work can tell you
Hold on! - Have a look at these Refilling HP Ink cartridge instructions - there seems to be a tip there to show you how to reset the level...
Well, I tried it but the instructions were for the 700, 800, and 900 series. It caused some strange things t0 happen but I got it back to normal---still no change in the ink level indicator. Hmmmmm, any other ideas?
It could be it was not refilled completely. If it is not a HP cartridge it might not be 100% compatible despite claims.

It's been ages since I've replaced an ink cartridge for an HP printer, but I seem to recall there being a wizard process that was used to reset the levels. Check your Programs listing to see if it's there.
Also, there is (was??) a trouble-shooting FAQ in that list.
