Internet Header info appearing in body of message (2000-SR1, Exch 2K SBS)

All received e-mail is displaying with all the internet header stuff, any attachments are also displayed within the message as plain text, however, un-readable. I have searched the MS knowledge base and this forum for any pointers to where to turn this off without success.

are you using a content filter on the exchange server? mail essentials caused similar problems.

attachments as 'garbage' tends to indicate an encoding problem - mime is not getting decoded.

if you could post a message that has an attachment (post it as an attachment) so we can see the actual unreadable text would help determine if it's encoding or some other issue.

I have not knowingly used a content filter. This is my first W2K SBS installation and basically followed all the wizards during the install. Additional software installed was Veritas SBS Backup Exec V8.5 and Nortons AV Corporate edition V7.5.

I have (I hope) attached a message that I sent from my own Outlook 2K. I also attached a single page Word document with a single line of text. I then logged into the W2K SBS and opened and forwarded the message. In the inbox it did not indicate any attachments.

it looks like i expected - it's not getting decoded.

stop the NAV service and test it - it could be munging the message.

Stopped the NAV service but it made no difference. Also un-installed Norton which also made no difference.
Its beginning to look like an exchange un-install re-install. Oh joy!

I did a re-install of exchange server today but it made no difference.
