HTML definitions corrupted? (XP)

I have been uploading a webpage, but it never appears on the server after I make changes to it (in Dreamweaver). Have cleared the cache. I called the hosting company and the rep said that he thinks my HTML definitions in Windows are corrupted.

Can anybody help me?

Welcome to the lounge.

I have absolutely no idea what they could have meant by "...HTML definitions in Windows are corrupted", but we can try a couple of things to eliminate some obvious possible causes of this.
<UL><LI>Can you try viewing this web page from a different PC, preferably one that has not been used to access it before, and ideally one that uses a different ISP to access the Internet. This should let us eliminate most caching issues
<LI>Can you use ftp to download the modified pages from the web site and check that the updated pages really are there?[/list]StuartR

What program are you using to perform the upload? If it's a "typical" FTP program, you should be able to examine the directory on the server with that same program, immediately after the upload, to see if the file is there and has the correct time and date. Something could be amiss with the uploading process itself, although I'm surprised you're not getting an error message if that's the case.

I don't know who the ISP is, but also remember that internet filenames and extensions are CASE sensitive. There's also another common problem some folks stumble on with the extension on the server files: there's a difference between .htm and .html (and the uppercase versions).

Questions I would like to aske:

1) Are you using the FTP tool within Dreamweaver to put your files up?
2) Is the rep referring to your Document Type Definition(DTD) declaration in your HTML?
3) Do you have an existing website and if so:
a) Was it working correctly?
[img]/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif[/img] What is the default page name (usually index.asp, index.htm, index.html, default.htm, defualt.html)

If you can come back with some answers on these questions it will be a good step forward. I do not particularly like the FTP tool in Dreamweaver as there is no 'visual' control on the site, you may also want to try Filezilla as your FTP tool, it is <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>

Yes, Dreamweaver. After reading all your questions, it caused me to look back at my filenames. In the midst of renaming the file, I had accidently left a space before the filename. Hence the browser never saw the page. Thank you!
