    ftp prepending an underscore

When I ftp an updated includes file with Dreamweaver, it prepends the filename with an underscore and uploads it, rather than replacing the file that exists. I am assuming this is a Dreamweaver trick, rather than the server's. Has anybody seen a problem like this?

I have never come across this before in Dreamweaver. What type of server are you FTPing to Unix or IIS?

In <post:=644,780>post 644,780</post:> I suggested you use an alternative FTP software such as Filezilla. Even if you use this it would be interesting to see if it does prepend the file. This way you can categorically state if it is Dreamweaver or the server doing the prepend.

    Thanks for replying.
    It's a UNIX host.
I clicked your link to download Filezilla, and it appeared that I had to download about six zip files. Is this correct? If not, please tell me which one is the one I want.

    You will need FileZilla_2_2_32_setup.exe from

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ackage_id=15149

I still would like to understand why the prepending with an underscore is taking place.

    Re: ftp prepending an underscore

    Hi again

That is what I am trying to see, did you try the FileZilla and if so was the underscore placed on the front of the file when you uploaded? I am trying to eliminate Dreamweaver as the issue or the server

    Re: ftp prepending an underscore

I use DW (version MX 2004) and have never seen this. I upload files to a Unix web server and the file names do not get changed. I couldn't see anything in Preferences or the Manage Site dialog that would change the file name. Try uploading with another FTP program as a test to eliminate DW as the problem.
