FF IE Tab add-on (FF 2)

Bowlie's <!post=Posted reply to Hidden Images,634349>Posted reply to Hidden Images<!/post> on Pix Place Forum referenced the IE Tab add-on.

Noticed the latest version at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/ is: Version 1.3.2.20070404

Re: FF IE Tab add-on (FF 2)

    Scott,
My PC is maintained by my IT department - I have not used it with Windows updates. However I have used it without issue on quite a few pages that are Firefox-unfriendly.

This includes MS Webmail products (including Secure application manager) that appear to be intentionally Firefox-unfriendly.

I find it a great tool!

Re: FF IE Tab add-on (FF 2)

Many people really like this extension but for me it is overkill. I rarely need to view pages in IE and on those instances that I do I prefer to use a much simpler extension, IE View Lite, especially as I do not feel the need to open IE in a tab in Firefox. There have also been issues with that extension causing memory leaks (see Problematic extensions - MozillaZine Knowledge Base)

Thanks for the response, I will look into it.

From the documentation, I glean this is an option that allows IE to run in FF Tab - NOT IE type functions for FF.

    Still reading ..

    Tony,

Thanks for the fast response - I will check the references and IE View Lite.

Basic question applies, have you used IE View Litefor MS Updates and if so, any problems ?

I dunno, I didn't read the documentation - all I know is that things that don't work in FF work fine in this IE window. No issues what-so-ever. I was tempted to check out Tony's alternative, but 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. I've bookmarked the link, just in case.

    Thanks Tony.

Between myself and three others, we will probably try both options. Both seem to work and depends on preference. I will have not finished checking the memory leak references but I will.

I will repor4t back with any findings.

This my NORMAL standard of operation.

Between myself and a few others we will probably try both options and report back. Interestingly, none of us have Vista yet.

Re: FF IE Tab add-on (FF 2)

IE View Lite is used to open IE. When it opens IE it is totally independent of Firefox so can be used to open any site, including MS Update.

MS Updates also work with IE Tab, at least it does with Windows XP, not sure if it works with the Vista version of MS Update.

    Are you kidding? My IT people just installed SP-2! It's going to be years before they get the guts to try something 'new' <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17><small>and Mac-like. <img src=/S/duck.gif border=0 alt=duck width=23 height=23>

oops should have said "the group" are for private machines.

Work machines range from ME to NT. We have several XP Pro machines but those are reserved for exaulted mangers who rarely use the machines.

<img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17>upper management would agree with the mac-like comment - except they think it is Unix
