update contents prompt (2002 SP-3 (later))

Without instructing the reader to uncheck the Print options, and without using macros, is there a way to prevent the Update Table of Contents options from appearing?

    I don't think so.

If the reader is not going to edit the file, change the pagination or use the hyperlinks within the TOC then you could break the field so that there is no TOC field in the document.

To do this, select the TOC and press Ctrl-Shift-F9
