This could be caused by any of the following:
    - Security settings too high (either in IE or in your firewall or other security app).
    - A damaged ActiveX control or DLL.
    - Infection by some kind of malware.
It's hard to guess which of these applies.

I'm afraid I don't know. I hope that someone else will have some suggestions.

    Re: Windows update (XP SP2)

Guys I have tried everything but nothing works the latest error that I get is when I run "regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL" Error (DLLRegisterServer in MSXML3.DLL failed. Return code was: 080004005). Any other suggestions?

P.S I tried to reinstall service pack two but it does not work, I cnnot reinstall it, the reinstallation fails. Maybe I should do a windows repair installation

See MSKB article FIX: Error message when you use the Regsvr32.exe command-line utility to try to register the Msxml3.dll file in Microsoft XML 3.0. Apparently you need administrator permissions to do this. There is a hotfix available, but you have to contact Microsoft to obtain it.
