    rotating a whole table (XP)

    I'm working on a brochure.
In one of the panels I like to place a table, but I have to rotate the table 90 degrees. Is there any way I can group the table and use rotate ? At the moment, the rotate function is greyed out.
    Thanks

You cannot rotate a table, but you can do one of the following instead:
    - You can rotate the text in the cells, using Format | Text Direction...
    - You can place the table in a section of its own, and change the page orientation for that section from portrait to landscape (or vice versa).

I managed to transfer it into excel as an object but can't rotate that either.
Your first solutions won't work for this table.
Suppose I have to redo in a graphics programme
    Bummer !!!!
    Thanks anyway

Figured out a way to do it... I've copied the table into excel. Made it a JPEG and rotated it into my brochure panel.
A bit of work but now it looks great
    Thanks anyway

    Another option is
    - Prepare the table until no further editing is necessary.
    - Select the entire table (Table | Select | Table)
    - Edit | Copy
    - Click elsewhere
    - Edit | Paste Special...
    - Select Enhanced Metafile as format.
    - Click OK.
    - Click the Rotate Left 90

    Hi Karat,

I'm curious as to why you believe that rotating the text won't do. Can you shed some light on this?

The only thing that comes to mind is that you might also need to transpose the cells. If it's a simple table, it would be easy to do this via Excel's transpose capabilities. Alternatively, one could do it with a macro in Word.

Hi there, sorry for the delay... time zones and all that

The table has all different size cells, so in principle you can change the text direction but getting the cells to be the correct size is a challange. I have to admit that word isn't my favourite programme either. Give me excel anyday.

Cheers and have a great Tuesday
