Outlook rule based on recipient's email address (2

I have set up the following Outlook rule on my PC to divert any emails sent to me@olddomain.com to an (InBox) folder called Old Email Address:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
with olddomain in the recipient's address
move it to the Old EMail Address folder.

However, test messages to this address still appear undiverted, in my ordinary Inbox folder.

Has anyone any ideas a) what's wrong or how I can do what I want?

Thanks

John

PS I have also tried specifying olddomain.com and me@olddomain.com without this making any difference.

Re: Outlook rule based on recipient's email addres

The usual thing with rules that don't behave is either another rule having priority, or not selecting "..and stop processing more rules" at the end.

I'd try a re-test with it as the first rule or disabling all others.

PS - what version? - I don't believe it's Outlook 2!

John,

When I've setup rules I've had to check for words in the message header. The address checking has never seemed to work properly.

Re: Outlook rule based on recipient's email addres

Leif: The subject was entered with 2002SP3, but it seems to have been truncated for length. This rule was the first on the list.

Joe: You are entirely correct, and it works when you specify olddomain in the message header! Well done. (I would never have thought to use message header instead of recipient's address...)

Thanks to you both!

That is a well-known side effect of FireFox.

I've had the same experience as Joe. What I ended up doing was adding the "@" sign to the from. @olddomain.com. It will more or less force you into making a new contact, but it does work.
Thanks John

Re: Outlook rule based on recipient's email addres

Other John

It seems to work fine (for me) by just specifying olddomain without a preceding @ or a following .com, so I'm quite happy to leave it at that. I'll probably only be using the rule for a couple of months until we get rid of all olddomain email addresses entirely. People will have changed all their list subscriptions and told all their occasional contacts by then ... Won't they!

Hans: an interesting side-effect of using Firefox, to truncate subjects!

Re: Outlook rule based on recipient's email addres

You may be using Exchange server. In that case, the recipient address in messages addressed to you is an oddly formatted string that bears no resemblance to the address used by the sender. Hence the need to poke around in the headers.
