    recycling bin functionality (5.1.2600 sp2 build 26

Recycling bin functionality gone. Recycling bin logo appears on desktop, but does not work.
Previously had Norton Systemworks installed, but uninstalled program. NPROTECT folder remains in RECYCLER folder. It contains 9 files, each with 0 bytes. I am unable to remove this folder. Each of this files has an "archived" attribute, that I cannot change. The files have a "number" in the prefix of the name, but nothing at all in the suffix.

I admit to not knowing (or caring) about anything that even remotely looks like Norton, but look here. When I Googled a little this was one of the hits. Go down to the bottom of the thread.

I better add a post rather than edit, in case you're relying on emails. I also looked at Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP and she has one item about "Norton" at line 380 and a couple about repairing (etc.) the Recycle Bin at line numbers 64 and 115.

As always be careful and you should have a full backup just in case Murphy gets ya!

Try this very handy <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> utility. It will most probably get rid of those files for you.

    UNLOCKER

It will sit in the background and when you get the message that WIndows can't delete it, it will pop up and offer to do it for you.
