Windows in taskbar (2003 (with Win XP))

At both work and home I have the "windows in taskbar" check box selected and each new document generates another button on the task bar. At home, once there are a few documents, this collapses to one button which pops up a list when you click it, but at work, more and more buttons appear, getting smaller and smaller and eventually requiring more than one row in the task bar. What setting controls this difference in behaviour?

That is not a Word setting but a Windows setting. Right-click an empty part of the task bar and select Properties in the popup menu.
The "Group similar taskbar buttons" check box controls whether multiple buttons for the same application will be grouped or not.
