    Re: Word Virus? (11.2)

Yes it does have a virus (W97M.Thus.A) - Apple successfully pretend that OS X is immune but in reality it is just a smaller target. MS Office viruses can work happily on Macs but are less likely to attack the operating system.

Try opening the file with a text editor or open it with macro disabled and then save the file as RTF or some other format that doesn't transfer the virus. If Word is unaffected after you have opened this file (which it sounds like) then this is all you need to do. If you find other problems with Word as a result of having run the virus macros then you will need to do some searching on google to find the resolution to your problem.

Well, I think it's too late. I've already "enabled macros" in more than a few documents. I'm wondering if I can solve the problem by rei-installing word.

Reinstalling Word won't affect documents that are already infected.

Do you have an anti-virus program? If not, get one now. Then do a full scan of your hard disk.

    Word Virus? (11.2)

Attached document deleted by <!profile=StuartR>StuartR<!/profile>. Now the problem has been diagnosed we don't need the lounge to serve up a virus infected word document <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

appear to have a virus or something in Microsoft Word. I didn't
    think I could get a virus -- I'm on a Mac running OS X. I'm woefully
ignorant. But every time I open a Word document now, it asks me if I
want to enable macros. If I say no, it opens the document as read-only.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
