    Numbered Headings + Macrobutton in TOC = Bleah!? (2002, 2003)

    I have seen some weird behavior lately: If a Macrobutton field (used as a fill-in) is present in a numbered heading, the headings will appear in the TOC with the tab character in the wrong place -- it's past the macrobutton's text, e.g.
    1.1<text in the macrobutton> -tab-> rest of the heading -tab-> 23

    See the attached document. I've seen this happen with extremely simple examples, and with both XP and 2003.
    Any workaround (other than removing the Macrobuttons) would be greatly appreciated.

    Do the macrobuttons have to be at the start of the heading paragraphs? If there is other text in front the issue doesn't appear - for instance if you put the macrobutton after a single quote then the problem is smaller.

    Extending this further, if you try a non-printing character in front of the macrobutton, such as an optional hyphen, then there is no visible element in the document AND the TOC looks right.

    Andrew -- that's genius. I'll see if it'll fly with my very fussy client. I'd tried hidden text, but that didn't work.
