    Distributing BIOS change? (XP SP2)

Is it possible to enable the WakeOnLAN property without logging on locally to *each* machine? I feel a long weekend coming up.

Re: Distributing BIOS change? (XP SP2)

I use WakeOnLAN (specifically WOLcmd) to wake up hibernating or stood-by PCs so I can then do something to each sequentially with PsExec (like Defrag their C: drive).

What was the question you wanted to ask?!

I may be mistaken, but I thought that WOL was a BIOS-controlled option?

It can be - but you also need to have the correct Power Management options set for the NIC in Device Manager on each PC (for my home one I have those in the attached graphic)

Thanks John. I'm sure I can find those options somewhere in the registry, but do you know of an easy way to enable WOL?

Re: Distributing BIOS change? (XP SP2)

I've always done this from Device Manager on each individual PC, but if you find it is a generic change (perhaps using Sysinternals' REGMON) on a few machines you could perhaps roll it out?

Since I'm only familiar with Dell (Phoenix?) BIOSes, I don't think it is controlled in there (although I may be wrong...)

I'm sure I can roll it out from pxExec and use reg add or something along those lines to handle the NIC settings. If I make those changes on the NIC (I'm also using Dell PC's...GX260s), is there any other setting that needs to be changed?

That's the only setting I can remember (from home)...

    Best of luck!
