    Java (Vista HP)

I am trying to install Java so I can run a Secunia Software program (which needs Java installed). I have tried to run a couple of time but run into a dead end as per the attached. The normal solution is click the yellow pop up at the top of the browser window to allow the program to run - herein lies the problem that yellow bar is not showing up. Any suggestions.

Try the offline installation version available from Sun download centre

Thanks this worked, but it changes the Windows Aero to Basic colour scheme - should this happen.

No, I used it and have Windows Aero. Not sure of a solution.

Been using it since day 1 and have not had any Aero problems.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

In my case Java is starting up in the start up programs (bottom right of task bar) as soon as it loads a message pop up advising that a program has caused Windows Aero to close and that Windows is operating in basic mode. Is yours in the start ups?

    Glen,

    1) Re: Java update notification.
    - Go to Control Panel (Classic view)
    - Double-click on the Java icon
    - Click on the "Update" tab
    - Uncheck the item: "Check for Updates Automatically"

    2) Re: Vista Aero
    - I would uninstall Java completely and reinstall it. Your experience is very weird, to say the least. Hopefully a reinstall will resolve your problem.

    Re: Java (Vista HP)

In response to your post your reccomendation in 1) were the same on my system in relation to 2) the windows aero I did the uninstall and used my previous download to re-establish --- this brought about the following observations the manual Java site download will give you Java ?? update 3 while my system had update 1 -- update 1 = no problems while update 3 = (as least on my system) the current problem. Any suggestions

    Re: Java (Vista HP)

    Glen,

Update 3??????? I see no such download for Windows on the Sun Java website. The current version for Windows is: Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language jre-6u1-windows-i586-p.exe,13.16 MB, which is available here: https://sdlc2a.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServl...3A1CF4CA2813EA5.

On the main Sun Java website, the version you should be using is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1 as shown from the screenshot below. Since this "update 3" you are using doesn't work, which doubtless is not something you should have installed, <IMG SRC=http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/giggle.gif> the "cure" for your ailments is simply to install the correct version. <IMG SRC=http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/bigglasses.gif>
