    Styles:Turquoise Background (Word 2003/SP2)

    I have a .doc file that I keep synchronized on a Palm Tungsten E2. I actually synchronize it between my computer here at work (XP Pro) and my computer at home (98se). For some reason my Palm creates a 'Turquoise' background to some of the document. I can highlight it in my Palm and change the 'Background' color, but in Word on my desktop I have to select each block of highlighted text and manually change it in the 'Styles and Formatting'. I can't seem to 'Select All' and change the background.

    Has anyone had any experience with this? I believe it may have to do something with the Palm software or synchronizing between 2 versions of Windows.

    Any ideas are welcome.

    If you check all the Word "views" (e.g., Print Layout, Web, Print Preview), can you identify exactly what this formatting attribute is -- highlight or shading or page background? Do any of your styles have this in the style definition?

    What software do you use on your Palm to work with the document?

    <P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by 79schultz on 04-May-07 09:02. Deleted some sensitive info.)</P>Check out the attachments. I don't know how much more information I have on that. I tried changing "Patterns" in Word and it didn't seem to work. One workaround I have found is highlighting the text on my Palm and Palm software has a "Highlight" option that I can change to white background. Working on a small screen though is cumbersome and the affected areas are random.

    I don't know how helpful it would be, but if you wish you could attach a small sample document demonstrating the problem. You can replace sensitive text with dummy text.

    You can:
    - Select the entire document,
    - Select Format | Borders and Shading,
    - Activate the Shading tab,
    - Click 'No Fill',
    - Select Text in the 'Apply to' dropdown, and
    - Click OK.

    Or run this macro:

    Sub RemoveShading()
    ActiveDocument.Content.Font.Shading.Texture = wdTextureNone
    End Sub

    I tried both of those options and neither of them worked.

    Rather than targeting the texture, try targeting the background color of the characters -- switch this line in:

    <code>activedocument.Content.Font.Shading.Backgrou ndPatternColor = wdColorAutomatic</code>

    Nope. Sorry. Didn't work either.

    Is there a macro that I can build that clears all formatting and then sets the style back to what I wanted? I found I can do that manually in Word.

    One problem I see is that all dates are set in Times New Roman font size 10 and bold, whereas the text is Arial size 10 regular.

    In that case, the document you attached is not representative, for both options work on that document. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    OK, I'm starting to realize my mistake. I was thinking that I could modify that code to a Private Sub for that document and run it on open. That didn't work, so I copied your code exactly, then tried to run the macro from the menu and it still doesn't work.

    Is there something wrong with Office? I will check but I'm quite sure I have the latest updates installed.

    I'll be leaving work soon so I may not respond 'til next Monday.

    Try this:

    Private Sub Document_Open()
    With ActiveDocument.Content.Font.Shading
    .Texture = wdTextureNone
    .BackgroundPatternColor = wdColorAutomatic
    .ForegroundPatternColor = wdColorAutomatic
    End With
    End Sub

    That did the trick. Thanks a lot, HansV!
