    hidden endnote (2003)

I have a client who is using endnotes, but it skips number 3, as if there is a hidden endnote somewhere in the document. Tried doing find special looking for endnote marks, but couldn't find it. Narrowed it down to within a few lines of text, but it seems to move around if you try to delete those lines. Any suggestions on how to find and eliminate this gremlin?

    Thanks,

Near the bottom of the vertical scrollbar is a round button. If you click this, one of the options is to browse by Endnote. The double-down arrow then should go to the next one. Does this let you find the culprit? Just in case you are not viewing hidden text, try using the Show All (paragraph mark) button temporarily.

Is there any tracked revisions in the file - I would expect that if an endnote was marked as deleted then it would impact the subsequent numbering but may not be visible if you are hiding the deleted tracked text.
