Adobe Reader overrules Acrobat

My subject title eludes to the problem I'm seeing. I have both Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and Acrobat Pro 6.0 installed. When I click a PDF file, the Reader opens which most of the time is fine. However, I want to use Acrobat in a few cases and when I right-click the .pdf file, select 'Open With' and choose Acrobat, it still opens the file in Reader. Very strange.

I then tried launching Acrobat first and do File/Open to locate the .pdf file. When the file is opened, it actually ends up in Reader and Acrobat disappears. I used to be able to do this so something got messed up. The file associations for PDF are set to Reader but when I change it to open with Acrobat, it still uses Reader.

How can I get these two programs to co-exist?

    Deb

The following thread from the Adobe forums should help.

    Re: Adobe Reader overrules Acrobat

Very interesting link. I wasn't able to find this on my own in Adobe's forum. This person describes my problem exactly (although with different versions). I tried the fix "Start>Run acrobat.exe /n" and that worked to unstick these two apps. I then switched my PDF file associations back to open Reader by default since I prefer to use that most of the time and only Acrobat when I want to edit (since it's slow to load).

Hopefully this problem will stay fixed, but if not I now know how to get it running again.

    Thnx, Deb
