Memory Error (IE6, XP MCE)

Out of the blue I'm getting an error window every time I close IE. The "Application Error" window says "The instruction at "0x6600ccc" referenced memory at "0x6600ccc." The memory could not be "read"." What could be causing this, and is it significant?

Hi John

1) Are you up to date with your MS updates for Internet Explorer?
2) What XP Service pack are you on (Start | Run |Type winver)?
3) If you are comfortable with the insides of your PC, swap the RAM chips around or check if they are seated properly

I've had these type of error messages ever since I loaded Norton Internet Security 2007, always coming as I turn off my computer. They don't seem to cause any problems as my system still shuts down and there is no problem when I open up again - If it's the same issue then I think there have been many mentions under the 'spyware' topic - you might also try googling the error message to see what gets thrown up. If you don't have NIS 2007 then it's obviously a different issue.

edited to add: Sorry, I should have said that the file referenced to the error message (if it's to do with NIS) is always 'ccSvcHst'

Yes, for IE6

Did this, still getting the error.

It doesn't occur when I turn the PC off, just when I exit IE6. And no file or anything is referenced.

Have you tried disabling IE add-ins? They are often the cause of bad behavior. See How to manage Internet Explorer add-ons in Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I will get a similar error when ever I kill a "Flash" file that takes forever to load. The error does NOT appear until I close IE.

I shutdown about 80% of the add-ins, and that solved the problem. Now I'm getting a similar error about MS Outlook and some NET thingy, so I'll have to see what add-in is causing THAT error.
