Install Office 2000 patches? (Office 2000)

Subject edited by HansV to be more descriptive

Does anyone know if the patches to Office 2000 products are safe and worthwhile? I am still running 2000 and have never installed a patch off their site??

Hi Lyn

Welcome to the Lounge.

In my honest opinion, I think it is a good idea to get your Office 2000 patches updated, even after 7 years. There are security flaws in the original application , including macro security error, rectified in the Word part of the family.

As with all these things, it is an individuals take on the risk. What are the benefits, what are the down falls. What if it goes wrong, what can I do to go back to the original installation.

If you have never installed the patches, why are you suddenly wanting to do it now

Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

Yes, go ahead and install them. The patches / updates will correct errors in your Office applications and improve security - after the original version was released, bugs and security holes came to light, and many of these have been addressed in the patches / updates that were released later.
I'd visit Microsoft Office Update.

Interestingly enough, I just found this website after reading Woody's XP for Dummies Book. In the early days of PC's I used to do a lot of programming but have hired someone to handle keeping my pc's and app's running smoothly for me. Decided I am interested (and fascinated) enough not to mention have the time to get back into some of this stuff again. Different world now a days though!! Found the patches on Microsofts web site and thought I would ask before doing!! Thanks.

Hi there

No problems at all and understand completely. I have a habit of not updating my patches etc as I have to have strict set ups on my laptop and virtual machines as I have to ensure the Corporate builds do not exceed the basic specifications required for my applications to run correctly.

I/We never put a new patch onto our network until it has been virtualised and checked thoroughly. It is good you have checked beforehand though but there do not appear to be any real issues surrounding and you can see by Hans' response, go for it
