Adding bullet points in left margin (2000)

I've picked up some really useful tips from other people's postings on this forum, so I hope someone can help with this request.

My boss would like some bullet points added in the left margin of a Word document, without affecting the main body of the text. What is the best way of doing this (assuming it's possible in Word 2000)? I've thought of trying a 2-column page, with a narrow left column, but what would happen to the text flow if more text was added to the right-hand column and it flowed onto a new page?

    All suggestions gratefully received.

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

If the bullets belong to the text, you could use a hanging indent with the first-indent set to a negative amount, so that the bullets extend to the left of the text. See screenshot below.

If they are to be independent of the text, you could place the bullets in a text box placed in the left margin of the page.

    Hans,

Many thanks! The bullets don't belong to the text, but they do go very nicely into a text box. Don't know why I didn't think of that - must be in need of a holiday.

Your help is much appreciated. :-)
