    Editing HTML documents (2000)

I downloaded a government agency's form in HTML format, and then attempted to open it in Word to clean it up a little bit. My computer (running Windows ME) launched FrontPage instead. What do I need to adjust in order to edit the document in Word?

You should be able start Word, and load the file the file directly into Word. You could also right click on it in your File Mnager, and select Open With. If Word is not an option you can select Choose program, and choose Word.

That is exactly what I did, and, as I said in my initial post, the document did not open in Word, it opened in FrontPage.

    Hi Calvin,

I'm not sure if this is really what you are looking for, but what about in Word File/Open and change the Files of Type to either "All Word Documents" or "HTML Document"?

    Re: Editing HTML documents (2000)

Thanks for the response, but I got the same result with both suggestions. I asked Word to open the document but FrontPage opened it instead. By using "Save As" in FrontPage I was eventually able to get the document open in Word.

I can also "Save As" text only from Internet Explorer, and open the result in Word, but the formatting gets lost in the process.

I would like to be able to open HTML documents directly in Word to work on them.

    Hi Calvin,

    Just so I follow correctly:

    - You started Word
    - Clicked File/Open
    - Changed the Files of Type to HTML documents
    - Routed to where your file was located
    - Selected it
    - Clicked the Open command

And the result was FrontPage opened instead?

That is it, except that in my version of Word (9.0.3821 SR-1) the file type is listed as "Web Pages," instead of "HTML."
