XP-Windows Dual Boot

I installed a copy of RC 1 on a separate, clean Hard Drive (D. My "real" windows 98SE is on C:. When the machine starts I must select XP or Windows but the default is XP. How can I edit BOOT.INI to reverse this selection? I'd like the default to be Windows 98.

Re: XP-Windows Dual Boot

On the basis it is similar to W2K:

Right_mouse My Computer
Properties | Advanced | Startup & Recovery

or

Control Panel | System

Boot.ini should be read only - you can alter it with a text editor, but it is probably safer to go the 'proper route'.

** if the above doesn't work, a search for 'dual boot' from Start | Help should show you how.

Re: XP-Windows Dual Boot

Wow. That fixed it. Thank you so much.

Of course, for now, I'd just as soon remove XP in toto but wouldn't have a clue as to what to remove from my "real" Windows 98 C: drive. If I removed some of those files like boot.ini and God knows what else, it is sure to screw something up.

As I said before, I put XP on a completely separate hard drive but obviously some changes had to be made to the existing files. I've searched everywhere I could think to find an uninstall/deinstall process to no avail. Guess there is no way to back this truck up without jack knifing the whole rig!

Thanks again,
Al

This is in the Windows 2000 board, but the process is the same.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

That should do the trick. Thank God for WOPR and the great folks with the answers who "live" here.
