Count on autofilter (2003)

Loungers,

If auto filter returns 4 lines that meet the criteria in B1, I want to be able to 1 in A1 next to the first line, 2 in A2 at the second line, 3 in A3 at the third line and so forth.

I hope that makes since - any thoughts?

I assume that you have field names in row 1 (AutoFilter doesn't work without field names), so I'd start numbering in row 2.
Show all records.
Enter the following formula in A2:

=SUBTOTAL(3,$B$2:$B2)

Fill down to the end of the data (for example by double clicking the fill handle in the lower right corner of A2).
The numbers will adjust themselves automatically when you filter.

See attached example.
