Screen jumps when editing text in a table cell (20

A colleague of mine has a table in a word document (5 columns, about 20 rows). Many cells contain a lot of text so that one row span is higher than what can be displayed on the monitor. Said in other words: to go from the top of a cell to the bottom, one has to PgDn.

The phenomenon that irritates massively looks like this: As he is editing text, all by a sudden the entire screen moves up in the document (for sure not a PgUp key or anything like that accidentally). Occasionally the cursor also hangs for a few seconds.

We have not clue what the reason for that could be.

    Any help appreciated!

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

This kind of problem is usually hard to solve. It might be a quirk in the interaction between Word and the graphics card and/or the printer driver...

If your table rows are taller than the screen display then this may be due to Word jumping the screen view either to the top of the table row or the position of the cursor. I haven't seen this but I would have expected it to show the cursor position at all times.

Can you isolate which edits in particular cause this behaviour? - eg If he is editing using the number pad with the numlock key turned off then I would certainly expect jumping around. Does the same behaviour happen in Normal view and Page Layout view? What happens if you zoom back to see the entire table cell when editing?

On the cursor delay - try disabling background spell checking, grammar checking and possibly even background repagination. Does that free up resources to speed the edits?

Thanks to both of you for your input.

Didn't lead to any improvement, but I still appreciate your efforts.
