    RD Fields path needed (2003)

    HI,

The referenced documents refuse to open unless the full path is present. The files are all in the same folder and are on the local C:drive There are no spaces in the file names. Works fine when the full path is added in the RD field. According to MS help, the full path should not be needed if all the documents are contained in the same folder. The folder with the documents will be moved onto a network drive, hence the need to get rid of the paths. According to the web the /f switch is not reliable.

    Suggestions please.

Have a look at the document properties under the Summary tab to verify that there is no entry in the 'Hyperlink Base" field. This will cause problems if there is an entry there.

What is your web source for saying the /f switch is not reliable? Although I don't use RD fields often, I don't remember having problems with this although I consider the f switch to be optional since Word doesn't seem to need it on my machine today. <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> I would expect the /f is unreliable since the switch is supposed to be f

    Hi Andrew,

The 'Hyperlink Base" field is empty on the documents. Sorry, I meant f.

I have looked at about two dozen web sites with this problem and seem to recall reading about the f switch somewhere. I will see if i can find it.

Any other suggestions as it is a few years since I used the RD field and I am tearing my hair out over this. I have tried everthing I can think of.

    Thanks

Ok, I got it to work,

Used quotes, even though the file names had no spaces and were short (chap02.doc) and used the f following the file name.

Not sure why it needed quotes.
