    Rolling out Normal.dot on a domain (1)

Does anyone know how to roll out the normal.dot file out on a domain i have looked into it and seem to keep going into the same brick wall and starting to hurt a bit now. Or if this is even possible.
    Many thanks

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

I don't think you should try to "roll out normal.dot". It is intended to be the file that contains each user's personal customizations.

If you want documents to have a uniform look, create templates for the appropriate document types (letter, memo, report, ...) and make these available to all users. This can be done by copying the templates to each user's user templates folder on the hard disk, or by placing them in a shared network folder and pointing each user's workgroup templates path to this folder. The latter can be done by a policy.

If you want to make custom toolbars, macros etc. available globally, place them in a template and make it available as an add-in (global template). This can be done by placing the template in the user's startup path for Word. If you wish, you can point this startup path to a shared network folder (not the same one as above).

Shall look into it, Tried putting the word template in the startup section for word yet the header won't appear would this require something else.

The header (or other content) from an add-in won't appear in new files. Add-ins can supply customisations, autotexts and macros to all files but not default content.

You would harness this to fiddle with the 'default New Doc' by perhaps creating an addin that hijacks the File>New command to create a new file based on an alternative (network-supplied) template. This gives all users the default documents filled with your document boilerplate but leaves their Normal.dot untouched.
