    XP Media to Pro (XP)

I have a Gateway laptop computer that currently has XP Media Edition installed on it. I have a copy of XP Pro that I would like to install instead. Whenever I boot up and insert the install disk it won't recognize the key. I have tried to repartition the drive and it would let me do that either.

Has anyone heard any similar issues like this and how can I uninstall XP Media from this machine?

Have you tried to boot directly to the XP CD and used the option there to create a new partition?
    Tried booting to Safe Mode?
I assume this is a full copy of XP Pro and not a Gateway Recovery CD?
What error message do you get when you try to partition the drive?

Give us as much info as you can in order to try to resolve this.

When I try to boot from the CD I get the following message:
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer.
Make sure any hard drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic or setup program. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

I'm sure it's the unique Gateway boot partition that's getting in the way. You'll have to blow away that Startup Partition to get to the point where it will allow a repartition and reformat with XP Pro.

What model Gateway do you have?

You can go to this site and have an on line chat with a Gateway rep to see about the best way to accomplish this.
