    Screensaver-Power Saver (Home Premium)

Newish HP Desktop computer. Since I'm a photographer I want to keep my new Dell 24" Moniter fairly pristine, so I like the screensaver (standard windows black screen with little ribbon) to go on; and because of global warming, I prefer to have Power Saving to kick in for the monitor (1 hr) and computer itself (2-3 hours). But the screen saver often does not kick in!! Sometimes it does, sometimes not (usually when either Word or Outloot is open. It's inconsistent and unpredictable. Also the Power saving is even more erratic. Unreliable. Any thoughts?

    Re: Screensaver-Power Saver (Home Premium)

    kdoc,

    Just a couple of possibilities:

    1) With Outlook open, if you are like most, you have it configured to check for new mail every xxx minutes. That would definitely interrupt power options/screensaver. Not sure about Word?? Perhaps if you have opted for Word to be your default e-mail editor the same would apply. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    2) IF you just happen to be using a USB mouse or keyboard where the sending unit is a USB dongle, they are known to prohibit the power options/screensaver from starting due to perceived activity between the dongle and mouse/keyboard.

Thanks: 1. I've reset my send/receive in OUtlook to a minute later than the screensaver. But the problem with this possibility is that Outlook is always open, and this happens only erratically. Word is not a default email editor, but perhaps the 'Word automatic save function is doing the same--I'll reset that too?

    2. It's a non-usb keyboard and Kensikngton Trackball, and I don't know a dongle from .....
