Old Software and Vista (Vista Home Basic)

I've gone from a computer with Windows 98 to a new computer with Windows Vista Home Basic operating system. I have a few old programs that I've been enjoying for years, particularily Skyglobe and EarthWatch. When I try to run a couple of these favorite old programs on the new pc I get a message saying, "This system does not support fullscreen mode." in a box with a title bar "16 bit MS-DOS subsystem". It has buttons Close and Ignore. If I click Ignore, nothing happens. If I click close, the program's startup window closes. I wonder if there is anything I can do to continue using these programs with the Vista os. Thanks!

I would check with the OEM to see if there are any current updates that will run on Vista.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Thanks for your help and advise. It's time for me to retire those good old, little old, programs and get up-to-date, I think :-).

Unless you want to keep that old Windows 98 box setup in the spare room. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

How did you know that's what I was doing? :-) Just wanted to be able to be sure I could use all my favorite stuff in this transition period. Win98 to Vista is a big jump and learning curve, especially for me! Thanks to all you guys for your help and advice.

"How did you know that's what I was doing?"

    I keep one in the closet, for just such an emergency !!! <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

Keep at it with Vista. Those learning curves have a way of flattening out over time. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>
