DHCP lost it's lease

While looking at the Events log in Admin tools, I was startled to see a whole series of error flags and warning flags, that were repeating themselves every five minutes. The error said That DHCP had lost it's lease to 10.9.46.97 at 00045A5D5OA2.
Clicking on properties to see an explanation, there wasn't much there making any sense at all. I am drawing a blank as to how this happened and how to correct this.
While everything SEEMS to be working OK, these errors have only recently started to show up in the event log.

DHCP lease duration is a property your ISP sets or you set in a router configuraiton. If you use a router check its configuration.

Re: DHCP lost it's lease

Joe,
I use a Verizon Westell 6100 ModemRouter.
Just found out I can't access it via the regular 192.168.0.0 9 ( or 10.9.46.97 ) address to even check it's configuration.
Tried to reset the modem, still NG.

Why don't you try http://192.168.1.1 and see what happens. My Linksys uses that num as do several other brands. Even as bad as they are, I can't believe "V" would give you a device that can't be configured.

First, if your ISP is Verizon and you have DHCP (not PPPoE) you will most likely need to get the MAC address of the 6100 and c and Westell 6100 DSL Modem Installation Guide - LavaNet Support both have the 192.168.1.1 address as the configuration page as BigAl suggested. If you can't figure it out from there you'll have to contact your favorite ISP's tech support.

If you use a proxy server, turn it off to access modem settings.

Re: DHCP lost it's lease

Al and Joe,

Yes I did try 192.168.1.1 and it acts the same giving me a can't find the web page error.

I WAS able to configure the unit when I first got it but this is just a recent happening, that I stumbled on when looking at the Event Viewer in Admin Tools.

As mentioned, I tried to Reset the unit without any changes, so I MAY have to take Joe's advice and call THOSE people!

I just ruined my day!

Re: DHCP lost it's lease

Bob,

For what it is worth, I have had this same DHCP warning a couple of times the last several weeks (none today).
They came, they went, no operational problems that I can detect so I am just ignoring them. I have a few other warnings and errors that I've also been ignoring.

Re: DHCP lost it's lease

Paul,
I have heard that Verizon was messing around with DHCP for a while but this was over 100 errors and warnings in the last few DAYS!

I still haven't downed enough Jack Daniels to go to the big V for help as yet.
I MAY be on to something though. I completely disconnected the 6100, rebooted and then reconnected and RESET the modem with the rear reset button. Then setup a new network connection.

SO FAR, no reappearances of the errors but I will have to let this recycle a few times to insure that those errors are indeed gone. We will see and repost back with status.

Re: DHCP lost it's lease

Just a status report on this thread.
After doing the things I listed in my last post, it appears that those error messages and warnings have NOT returned, so...........

Case Closed. Thanks all for your replies.

You may return to your Jack Daniels consumption just for the sake of holiday weekend preparation & not fortification for contacting the big V.
