toolbar locations where are they stored (Word 2002 XP SR3)

When new employees start, when they start up Word for the first time, with their logon accounts, the toolbars are all bundled on top of each other until they drag them into the correct place.

On logon they all get the same normal.dot file.

I was under the impression the toolbar locations can be saved and stored in the normal.dot.

Microsoft toolbar locations are obviously stored elswhere?

what are .PIP files stored in the profiles?
    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftOffice

Im reluctant to set toolbar locations using code.

Is there another way I can achieve this?

    many thanks diana

Looks as though the PIP files store usage information for when users do not always display full menus.

How to reset personal menus in Office XP and Office 2000 programs (MSKB 193006) (also mentions Office 2003)
How to reset personalized menus in Office 2007 programs (MSKB 912721)

It' s possible that toolbar visibility and position information are stored under the DataSettings key in the registry, which is binary and uneditable.

    Thanks Jefferson.

I saw those articles. It mentions to manually apply the solution to each pc /profile. However if we have 20 new starters that means I have to amend 20 profiles manually.

I was looking for something more "global". for example so i can make one change and push that out to all 20 new starters.

    many thanks

Sorry, I only meant to answer the question about what is in PIP files. In a perfect world, they will never need updating or replacing because Word will be configured to ignore them. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> (I dislike "personalized" menus, or any other innovations which make me play hide and seek with features I need to use.)

For discussion of administering user configurations, let's continue in your other thread: reg key to set standard toolbars on 2 rows (Word 2002 XP SR3)
