Strange mouse pointer (Office 2000)

Hello,
My boss just received an excel worksheet from our Corporate office and when she clicked on another spreadsheet tab, her mouse pointer turned into another pointer that we have not seen before. If you put your pointer over the "new" icon in the toolbar, that's was the cursor turned into on the spreadshee. She also couldn't navigate anywhere else. When she put the funny new curser over any of the toolbars, the cursor would change to a circle with a slash that didn't allow her to do anything.

We closed the worksheet and Excel (using Ctrl-Alt-Delete) and brought it up again and the same thing happenned. She finally rebooted her computer and now it seems to be working fine. Anyone ever see this behavior before? or know what these cursors mean?

Thanks!
Louise

If you click on a sheet tab and hold down the mouse button (intentionally or accidentally), the mouse pointer will change to an arrow "holding" a page. This indicates that you can drag the sheet tab to another location. The "no entry" mouse pointer indicates that you cannot drop the sheet tab there. Try it sometimes on a workbook with more than one sheet - you can use it to rearrange the order of the sheets, and if you hold down the Ctrl key while dragging and dropping, you can make a copy of a sheet.
I guess Excel had become confused, a reboot cured this. Hopefully it won't occur again.

Hi Hans,
Yes, it was very strange. Something must have gotten stuck on her mouse. Funny part is, I've moved or rearranged sheet tabs plenty of times myself but still didn't recognize that cursor! When I went into her office, she didn't even have her hand on the mouse at all and the cursor was like that. I then moved the mouse without touching any buttons. Then for it to happen twice? Maybe she needs a new mouse.

Thanks again,
Louise
