PLEASE HELP! Sorting adds extra pages (Excel 2003/SP2)

I have a large excel spreadsheet that currently is sorted by date and is 224 pages. If I change the sort order to go by ID number, I end up with 227 pages. Unfortunately, I have to keep the number of pages the same for each sort. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to prevent it? We need to get this out today so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Without seeing the data (and that is not realistic for a 224 page worksheet) it's impossible to tell what causes this.
However, you can specify that you want to fit the printed output to 224 pages in File | Page Setup...

I am able to change the Adjust to from 60 % to 59 % in File | Page Setup and get it to 224 pages, but not every time. Sometimes it makes it 221 pages instead. It is really strange. I've reset the Print area multiple times as well, and this doesn't help.

I'd create a copy of the worksheet (or workbook) and sort the original by date and the copy by ID. Print preview both, so that page breaks are displayed. Then painstakingly compare the two to see where the discrepancy appears - fewer rows on a page or something like that. It's tedious, but offhand I can't think of another way.

You could use some code to step through the HPageBreaks collection of both and see where the differences in # of lines per page are?

I suspect that you have cells containing wrapped text. which could cause differing amounts of white space at the bottom of the pages; depending on what precedes the row that starts a new page.

    Just reading this confuses me.

If I am correct, the problem will disappear if you select all and uncheck the Wrapped Text box in the Format Cells pane.
