Outlook Contacts for Windows Mail? (Vista Home Premium)

Is there a way for Vista's Windows Mail to use Outlook Contacts for its address book in stead of Windows Contacts? It worked fine in XP with Outlook Express.

I have no experience with this myself, but all the posts I found about this subject in the newsgroups lead me to believe that the answer is no. You can export Outlook contacts and import then for use in Windows Mail, but you cannot share them - the cause of many complaints...

Thanks, Hans. Yet another backward compatibility problem.

Why use Windows Mail at all?

Re: Outlook Contacts for Windows Mail? (Vista Home Premium)

Good question. Years ago, I tried using Outlook mail and found I liked Outlook Express better. I think there were some things OE did that Outlook didn't or didn't do as conveniently. Wish I could be more specific, but I can't remember the details. I suppose I should give Outlook mail another chance, but since Outlook isn't included with Office 2007 Home & Student, it seems the future is with Windows Mail. What do you see as the advantages of Outlook (besides the integrated Contacts)?

I'm not sure that Outlook is better than Windows Mail for home use. Since you mentioned that you wanted to share your Outlook contacts, I assumed that you were using Outlook anyway. If you're not, there is no need to share - you might export your Outlook contacts and import them into your Windows Mail address book.

I am using Windows mail on my Vista machine. It is a big improvement over Outlook Express and is a lot closer to Office Out does.

Mind you it does NOT have the horse power and all the bells and whistles, but it is a great replacement. I am using it because the Office Home and Teachers Edition 2007 does NOT contain Outlook. Outlook 2007 has been really beefed up to support the "Corporate users" and is a real over kill for a home user.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
