    Comcast and Firefox

My sister recently moved and so she had to change her ISP to Comcast. Now she finds that IE will not connect to any site and only Firefox works. Somehow it's like Comcast configured something such that only Firefox will run. We don't live in the same state so I remotely connected to her PC and I was able to verify that Firefox is the default browser (which is fine) but when I tried to view any web site in IE I get 'page not found' errors. I then switched the default browser back to IE but that didn't change anything. This was not a problem with her other ISP at her old address. It's the same computer, no changes there.

My brother also has Comcast (he lives in different state too) but he uses IE as his browser.

I asked her to contact Comcast to find out why she is forced to use Firefox and what they changed to make IE not function. A few of the sites she visits regularly do not work well in Firefox otherwise I wouldn't have a problem with it - but it is very weird that IE doesn't work at all.

Any explanation for this? Has anyone else seen this with Comcast?

    Thnx,
    Deb

I'm sure that Comcast does not care which browser is used. Have you checked the Internet Options | Connections in IE? Did your sister have to configure anything in FF to get it to work? Does Comcast require any software to be installed?

Yes, I agree it is strange and I can't think of what the problem would be. I couldn't find anything in IE's Tools/Options that would cause this. What would you suggest I look for? I can connect to her PC and change it if I know what to look for. My sister isn't knowledgeable enough about her computer to change anything (which is why I do everything for her remotely) so she couldn't of changed anything (she didn't notice she was using Firefox, she just complained that she couldn't get IE to work).

As to software that Comcast could of installed, I have no idea (I have DSL myself) but can't see what they'd put on her PC since all she needs is a modem and its driver.

    Thnx,
    Deb

If the Comcast version of McAfee is installed, it may be blocking IE access to the internet, but allowing FF.

If McAfee is not installed check what ever firewall software is installed and see if "it" is blocking IE.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
