Animated .gif files not animated (Outlook 2007)

I am more than pleased with the new Outlook 2007 but there is one thing which I find irritating. Animated .gif files are displayed without the animation; static in the body of messages. Is there an option to allow the animation for this type of files, e.g., Smileys, aka: Emoticons? And just in case it is relevant, I am using Office 2007 on a Vista Ultimate machine.

Outlook 2007 uses the Word engine to display HTML e-mails, since using the IE engine as in previous versions was considered too much of a security risk. Word doesn't render animation in animated GIFs. See Word 2007 HTML and CSS Rendering Capabilities in Outlook 2007 (Part 1 of 2). Flash content will not be displayed at all.

Thanks.... so, what you are saying, as best you know, there is no option to enable animation in Outlook 2007 e-mail messages, correct? at least at this time. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Yes. You could send a suggestion to Microsoft to make it optionally available again in a future update or version, but don't hold your breath. The decision to switch to the Word engine was not taken lightly.
