outlook email (2002 sp3)

In outlook email inbox, is it possible to prevent the partial preview of the new email message? The first 2 or 3 lines of the new message is visable, this is something new that apparently happened on a recent product update. Any suggestions appreciated.

'Auto-preview' gives you the first couple of lines - I find it useful for spotting any SPAM that slips through...
('Preview pane' gives you a full preview, showing attached graphics, tracking images, etc.)

Thanks for you response Leif. I no longer have the Preview Pane or the Auto Preview choices on the View drop down list. I would prefer to only see the email as in past with no preview. Do you think this was caused by product upgrade in response to all the SPAM?

I'm not entirely certain, but I don't think it would be down to an update.
Have you set any custom views?

I have Outlook 2002 SP3 with all updates, and I still have the Preview Pane and AutoPreview options in the View menu. (Note: AutoPreview is only available when you're looking at a folder containing e-mails or tasks, not when you're looking at other folders such as contacts or calendar).
You might try the following:
- Select Tools | Customize...
- Activate the Toolbars tab.
- Select Menu Bar.
- Click Reset... and confirm.
- Click Close.
See if that restores the missing menu items.

I tried your suggestion Hans, no change. The View drop down list shows Expand/Collapse Groups right under Folder list, however its grayed out. I did notice in Tools Customize that all the items can be selected or deselected except Menu Bar. The X at menu Bar could not be deselected.???

It's correct that you can't clear the check box for Menu Bar - Outlook won't allow you to hide the menu bar.
The Expand/Collapse Groups submenu is only enabled if you use a grouped view, for example grouped by subject, or grouped by date.

Try the following:
- Select View | Current View | Customize Current View.
- Click Other Settings...
- Click the No AutoPreview radio button.
- OK your way out.

Leif and HansV, Thanks so much for your help. If anything should come to mind please let me know. I did a partial search of past post and could not find a simaliar problem. I will try a reinstall of Outlook. Thanks again, you guys are fantastic, I'm new at this but learning!
