For the future: you can edit an existing post to add an attachment. Simply click the Edit Post button <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/edit.gif> in the header of the post. This is better than creating a new thread with the same question.

    Re: Workgroup Query

You can set the workgroup name from Control Panel > System > Computer Name > Change...

(This is on XP Pro, but I'm pretty sure it's the same on XP Home).

Yep, it's the same in Windows XP Home.

    Re: Workgroup Query

To complete the setup, please add any conditions that apply to Vista.

I have a mixed Vista (one computer) and XP Pro (three computers) and XP Home (one computer) that I am trying to home-network. i think my problem is something as simple as local firewalls (which I may have confirmed by morning), but universally-applicable answers will carry the most weight for the longest time, and might help users like me in the short run.

Sorry, I just discovered that one of the specified setups was Vista, but both answers applied only to XP. I respectfully request that the replies cover the specified territory, especially as it applies to me as well.

    Re: Workgroup Query

To change the workgroup name in Vista, right click Computer then select Properties. In the Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings section select "change settings'.
